Lamborghini has announced it is converting departments of its supercar production plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese in order to produce surgical masks and protective plexiglass shields. The masks will be donated to the Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Hospital in Bologna to be used in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Work will be carried out by personnel of the saddlery that produces the interiors and special customisation for Lamborghini cars, producing 1,000 masks a day, while 200 medical shields will be made a day, using 3D printers within the company’s carbon fibre production plant and the Research and Development department.

The activity has been approved and supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region and is taking place in collaboration with the University of Bologna. The Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences will oversee validation testing of the medical devices made by Lamborghini, prior to their delivery to the hospital.

We will win this battle together by working in unison, supporting those who are at the forefront of fighting this pandemic every day

Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini

As a sign of unity and support for the entire nation facing the Coronavirus emergency, every evening Lamborghini lights up the historic headquarter buildings in Sant’Agata Bolognese, with the colours of the Italian flag.

CRP Technology has manufactured in-house several prototypes of emergency valves for reanimation device and link-components for emergency respiratory masks for assisted ventilation.

For the manufacture of both type of components, the company used its 3D printing technology to create the emergency valves for ventilators and several Charlotte Valves which are link-components for the emergency ventilator masks.

The company said it’s patented the Charlotte Valve, to prevent any speculation on the price of the component. They clarify that the patent will remain free to use because it is in their intention that all hospitals in need could use it if necessary. It should be noted that neither the mask nor the link is certified and their use is subject to a situation of mandatory need.

Usage by the patient is subjected to the acceptance of the use of an uncertified biomedical device, by providing a signed declaration.

The Noire Sportive and Noire Élégance are limited to just 20 units each are both dripping in the black stuff and draw influence from the company’s one-off “La Voiture Noire” the black car created by Jean Bugatti and built between 1936 and 1938. The black car disappeared at the beginning of the Second World War. If it were ever to be found, it would probably be the most expensive car in the world.

The Chiron Noire Élégance sports an exposed carbon fibre body with a new grill design that houses a solid silver and black Bugatti emblem. New brake callipers finished in black are installed behind Caractère wheels. Other exterior accentuations such as the rear-view mirror and engine cover are finished in black carbon and polished aluminium. The “Noire” inscription adorns the side panels in front of the rear wheel and the underside of the rear wing.

[tie_full_img][/tie_full_img]

The interior of the Noire Élégance is fitted out with a black finish with aluminium and silk-matte detailing along with an additional carbon fibre badge inset into the centre armrest.

In the “Chiron Noire Sportive”, Bugatti covers the exposed carbon fibre with a matt black finish. The exterior trim elements, the C-shaped Bugatti signature line, the wheels, front spoiler and radiator grille are all matt black. The four visible tailpipes of the titanium exhaust system are likewise finished in black, as are parts of the engine cover. The interior is even more dominated by black than in the “Chiron Noire Élégance”. The embroidered “Noire” inscriptions on the inlays of the centre console and the headrest are black, as are the aluminium trim parts in the interior. Meanwhile the inner C-line, switches, push-buttons and rotary knobs on the dashboard, steering wheel, centre console and door handles in matt black underline the car’s exclusive, sporty character.

The new cars are powered by Bugatti’s  8.0-litre 16-cylinder engine with 1,500 hp and 1,600 Newton metres of torque continues to serve as the power unit. The edition model, limited to 20 vehicles, will start shipping in Q2 of 2020 and prices will start at 3 million euros.

We’ve all been there, you roll up outside that swanky hotel in your Lamborghini Aventador only to drag out that tatty looking holdall or backpack, well all that’s about to change. Lamborghini has teamed up with luxury suitcase maker TecknoMonster to create this range of carbon fibre suitcases.

Inspired by Lamborghini’s choice of materials each of the cases, manufactured in Italy use the same carbon fibre materials used to build Lamborghini’s supercars and are finished off with the iconic Lambo branding.

For the lining customers can choose from a naked interior with the carbon fibre showing through or quilted leather inspired by Lamborghini’s hexagonal pattern. The wheeled, lightweight cases are easy to push around and can be carried using its ergonomic leather handle with hexagonal hand-made stitching and aluminium end places. For safe storage it even has its own layer of neoprene to protect it while it is handled by the owner or airline staff.

[padding type=”full_left_right”][/padding]

The series comes in a number of different sizes and shapes with prices ranging from £7,065 for the smallest bag right up to £11,279 for the largest. Aventador owners wanting to buy the full range however, might need to install a roof rack to accommodate the extra luggage.

By the late 80’s the company had made their first carbon fibre prototype. The first fruit of Colnago and Ferrari Engineering’s cooperation was the Concept bicycle with carbon fibre tubes, composite three-spoke wheels and a gear system enclosed in the chainrings. The unusual gears made it too heavy for production, but the ideas in its frame have been used in all subsequent Colnago carbon fibre bicycles.

Following the development agreement between TenCate Advanced Composites and the Adler Group, an exclusive supply agreement has been reached for the use of carbon fibre composite prepreg material on the Alfa Romeo 4C chassis.

This advanced material is being used for the production of the entire monocoque of the new 4C. The central passenger cell reduces vehicle weight and creates a highly rigid and safe basic structure.

The project will use prepreg materials taken from the manufacturing facility in Nottingha, Mr. Frank Meurs, group director of TenCate Advanced Composites EMEA, said;

This innovative project with the Adler Group is a major breakthrough for TenCate, as it is the first OEM project of this size in the automotive industry and is seen as a high profile application

The support provided by TenCate to Adler has continued beyond the development phase of the project, with sales of Alfa Romeo forecast to reach up to three thousand cars per year. The two parties have agreed that an investment will be made to enable local production of the composite material, in order to optimise the logistic process and comply with “just in time” requirements needed for this important Alfa Romeo automotive programme. In addition, TenCate and Adler will work jointly on innovations for new automotive-related projects.
